This timbered cottage, also known as Jirošova rychta, was built in 1787 by Jiří Jiroš. Kopicův statek lies about a kilometre south of Valdštejn, above the village of Kacanovy. In front of the farmstead there stands a statue of St. George on horseback from 1806. The building is one of the most famous examples of folk architecture in the Bohemian Paradise.
The later owner, Vojtěch Kopic, took a lifelong interest in national history. He got into the fine arts during the Second World War, when he helped out on some cottage heritage restoration work. He made carvings on the sandstone rocks around his cottage from the nineteen forties until his death, portraying themes from Czech history (St. Wenceslas, Jánošík, princess Libuše) as well as motifs from the nature around him. This rock gallery is freely open to the public.
Kopicův statek is acclaimed as one of the most remarkable folk architecture heritage sites of the Jizera region. The farmstead is privately owned and is not open to visitors.
