Pařez
The ruins of a rock castle very close to Prachov Rocks. From the Tourist Chalet it is reached following the red markers; the green route leads there from Pařezská Lhota.
The history of Pařez castle dates back to the 1370s, when the written sources mention Petr of Pařez. At that time, however, the castle was called Husí nůžka (Goose Foot). It is still not completely clear when and why the castle fell into ruin. Although certain sources indicate that it could have been abandoned as early as in 1430, archaeological surveys imply that the castle did not survive into the second half of the 15th century. Stone balls found there support the theory that the castle met with a violent end.
Pařez castle is a 14th-century Gothic castle with a square stone tower, the remains of which are still visible in the western part. Its strategic position on its sandstone outcrop was probably enhanced by a system of water tanks, from which the water could be released to turn the surrounding ground to mud.
