Trosky Castle

The bizarre ruins of a Gothic castle, founded at the end of the 14th century by the lords of Vartenberk, have become the main symbol of the Bohemian Paradise. From the towers, known as The Maiden and The Crone, there are beautiful views of the picturesque scenery of the Bohemian Paradise and the surrounding regions.

This originally Gothic castle was founded in the 14th century on the peaks of a bizarre basalt igneous rock outcrop. Being built on two precipitous basalt rocks like this made Trosky impregnable – not even the Hussites managed to conquer it. 

Lookout point: Trosky consists of two towers, called The Crone (47 m) and The Maiden (57 m). During a tour of the place visitors can learn a lot not only about the rich history of the castle and its development over the years, but can also climb up both towers, which offer unique views of the countryside far and wide. In 1999 a viewpoint was built on The Crone. In clear weather you can see the Jizera Mountains, the Krkonoše and the Bohemian Central Mountains from here, as well as Prague and many other places nearby.
