This observatory was set up back in the 1960s in a former gunpowder store.
The observatory was mostly closed during the 1990s; however, in 2003 a new Newton-type mirror telescope with a 50-centimetre-diameter lens was installed, which is now in a private observatory in the Tábor region.
The observatory is currently run by K-klub, which organises hobby groups and leisure activities in the town. The observatory enables visitors to observe the Sun and the night sky, with regular talks given by invited guests. For more information, see the town information service bulletin. Anyone interested can arrange to use the observatory facilities for private observations.
