Příhrazské skály rocks
Route itinerary:
Příhrazy – Staré hrady (1.5 km) – Na Krásné vyhlídce (3 km) – Hrázka (4.5 km) – Příhrazy (6 km)
Description of route: From the car park by the restaurant and open-air swimming pool in Příhrazy, follow the red markers past the pool. The route is known as the Budovec Trail. A steep ascent up to the rock ridge brings you to Staré hrady. In mediaeval times there used to be a castle there; all that remains are several rock rooms, the remnants of the well and a ditch carved into the rock.
The route continues along the edge of the rocks with frequent views towards the north, and takes you to the Na Krásné vyhlídce restaurant, where you can get a bite to eat. From the open area in front of the restaurant there is a lovely view of Ještěd, the Jizera Valley, the Turnov region and Žabakor pond (45 ha), a nature reserve that is home to some protected plant species and many species of waterfowl. The pond is used for fish farming and swimming is prohibited.
Our route continues following the blue markers to Hrázka. In the surrounding area there are groups of ancient Slavic tumuli dating from the 7th and 8th centuries. From the crossroads at Hrázka you’ll have a view of the Příhrazské skály rock town, consisting of 178 rock towers. The most interesting of these is known as The Mare’s Head for its distinctive shape. From Hrázka, turn left and follow the yellow markers past the rock town and go down the Příhrazské Steps to the car park in Příhrazy (6 km).
