The Elbe River Canyon was created by our biggest river in the cretaceous plateau between Děčín (Czech Republic) and Pirna (Germany). The deepest point of the canyon is on the Czech side between Děčín and Hřensko. The vertical rock walls and promontories tower up to 400 metres above see level (Pink Ridge - Růžový hřeben). Here, the depth of the canyon is about 300 metres. A string of rock formations on both sides of the canyon amplifies the visitors' impression of the canyon.
Route: Děčín – Kvádrberk – Labská stráž – Pink Ridge (Růžový hřeben) – Belveder – Dolní Žleb
Route Description: From the Municipal Public Transport bus stop (Hospital), follow the red-marked trail up the hill to "Kvádrberk" or "Stoličná Mountain" ("Stoličná hora") which offers the first lookout on your way – the Emperor's Lookout (Císařský výhled). From here, you can see the whole town of Děčín and vicinity. Then follow the red-marked trail above the Elbe River Valley up to the "Elbe Guard" ("Labská stráž") Pavilion. The trail stretches through a wood to the Děčín – Česká Kamenice road along which stretches a hidden pathway through the Ludvíkovský Creek Valley (údolí Ludvíkovského potoka). From here, there is again a climb to the rock tops above the Elbe River. The best known is the Pink Outlook (Růžová vyhlídka) offering one of the most breathtaking views of the depth of the Elbe River Canyon. Then the trail diverts from the river heading into the adjacent woods and connects up with the Parkway (Alejová cesta) also known as the Coach Way leading from Bynov to the king of vantage points in this area, i.e. to the Belvedere. From here, follow the green-marked trail leading steeply down on stone steps to the river and to the ferry at Dolní Žleb. Just across the river, a couple of metres down the river, is a railway station that can be utilized.

Route Variants: If you do not want to go down to the Elbe River Valley following the green-marked trail ending at the ferry, you can go to the village of Labská Stráň and take a bus to Děčín.
Useful Information: The Municipal Public Transport bus stop at the Hospital is served by lines 201, 207 and 237, all of them starting at the main railway station.
